149.- Rule for discounts

I used to be one of those persons who are ashamed to ask for a discount, specially in places like boutique shops, auto dealers or service vendors in general. Very recently I learned that discounts are for those who ask, as my husband says. Don’t be afraid. I have become addicted to discounts or, at least, to negotiate better payment plans. You will be surprise as how much people is willing to give in.

25.- Rule for dating 101

If this is your very first date, and you don’t know much of the guy, needles to say you must choose  a restaurant (or public place) where you are known by the owners. Other rules that apply:

  • Wear a sexy outfit but leave room for further surprise (just in case)
  •  Don’t talk too much about yourself (again, be mysterious)
  •  Keep positive…nothing is worse than listening to trouble, problems and tragedies
  • Don’t speak about your family (no details, I mean)
  • But most of all…LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN. Let him do the talking, chatting, ordering, even singing or dancing. With all this information decide if you want to see him again.

187.- Rule for buying a car

When having to buy a car, I follow my father’s principle: “There are only two kinds of cars: the new and the old ones”.  There is nothing that can replace that particular “new car” smell, but most of all, why do you have to buy a used car that has no guarantee?  Just if the vehicle belonged to my mother (who is the most careful driver and disciplined car owner I know), I would consider that choice.

3.- Rule for coffee

I have just one word for coffee: Italian.  I know this is extreme, but Italians pick the best Arabica beans around the world, treat them the best way to obtain a perfect roast, and build the best coffee machines. If you cannot afford an Espresso machine, Moka coffee pots that you use on top of the stove are pretty good. If you want the best, you have to invest. Get Italian coffee (I like Illy, Lavazza and Segafredo), or at least 100% Arabica.
